Historian Jane Schmauss and CSM President Jim Kempton presented the first-ever “Making Waves” award to Encinitas surfer/shaper Zack Flores. Zack, 18, created his first board from a cast-off piece of foam when he was ten years old and is currently recognized as one of the finest up-and-coming shapers in the area.

Zack’s story, and that first board, appear in the brand new “Making Waves” section of the museum. Although CSM is dedicated to researching and displaying the history of surfing, we also realize that today’s young, innovative, talented wave-riders are setting the bar for exceptional achievements in the future.

Making Waves” is designed as a rotating display, and will feature up-and-coming groms who are leading the way.
Congratulations, Zack!
